ABSTRACT

Rehmanniae Radix is a common medicine of traditional Chinese medicine, which has the function of nourishing Yin and tonifying the kidney, and has a long application history of processing. This medicine was first recorded in Synopsis of Golden Chamber (《金匮要略》), which was mainly produced by steaming and boiling. Its processing materials were diverse. In addition to rice wine, honey, Amomi Fructus, milk, Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum, and Carthami Flos were also recorded in ancient books, but with the evolution of time, the characteristic excipients gradually disappeared. Based on this, starting with different excipients, the author consulted the classics of materia medica and processing specifications in various regions, sorted out the historical evolution of Rehmanniae Radix processing, and explored new methods and new ideas to exert the maximum efficacy on this basis. At the same time, the effects of different processing excipients on the chemical components and pharmacodynamic effects of Rehmanniae Radix were analyzed. After literature review, it was found that Rehmanniae Radix mainly had the effects of clearing heat and cooling blood, nourishing Yin and generating fluid. Its traditional processing excipients generally used rice wine, Carthami Flos and others. After processing with different excipients, there was different effects on the chemical components and pharmacological effects of Rehmanniae Radix. In summary, this paper can provide useful reference for standardized research on different processed products of Rehmanniae Radix.

ABSTRACT

Zaoren Anshen prescription preparations(ZRASs), which are prepared from three traditional Chinese herb medicines, namely fried Zizyphi Spinosae Semen, Salvia Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma and vinegar-processed Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus, are a series of proprietary Chinese medicines for the treatment of insomnia, amnesia and dizzy in clinic. In recent years, pharmacodynamic effect, chemical constituents and quality control of ZRASs had been extensively studied for the purpose of ensuring their safety, efficacy and stability, and a great progress had been made. However, there is no review of the research advance of ZRASs up to date. The present review summarized the research advance of ZRASs in quality control standards, chemical constituents, pharmacodynamic effects, and chemical analysis for the first time, with the aim to provide a reference for further studies on the effective constituents and quality control of ZRASs.

ABSTRACT

Polygalae Radix, a traditional Chinese medicine, has the functions of improving intelligence, calming nerves, relieving cough and eliminating phlegm. Its processing methods are various, but the purpose of processing is to reduce toxicity and increase efficiency. In this paper, the methods of ancient processing, such as cleansing, cutting, processing with excipient and processing without excipient, were summarized, the processing methods of Polygalae Radix in the different versions of Chinese Pharmacopoeia and the local processing specifications were summarized, in order to compare the differences and research progress of different processing methods. On this basis, taking the modern research of processed products of Polygalae Radix as the breakthrough point, this paper reviewed the modern research on processed products of Polygalae Radix from the aspects of processing technology, chemical composition changes and pharmacodynamics changes before and after processing, and the mechanism of reducing toxicity and increasing efficiency. Based on the research status of processing of Polygalae Radix, some existing problems were analyzed in this paper, including not many ancient processing methods used in modern times, lack of standardized research on processing technology, few studies on the ingredients introduced by excipients, etc. The author thinks that it is necessary to strengthen the research on the ancient processing of Polygalae Radix combined with processing methods with local characteristics. While discussing the processing technology, combining with the composition and efficacy, we should carry out in-depth research on the processing mechanism of different processing products of Polygalae Radix, so as to provide scientific basis for the rationality of processing of Polygalae Radix and ensure the clinical safety of medication.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To evaluate the effect of Chuankezhi injection on mouse model of pneumonia induced by influenza A (H1N1) FM1 strain. Method: ICR mice were randomly divided into normal group, model group, tamiflu control group (27.5 mg·kg-1·d-1) and Chuankezhi injection group (1.5 mL·kg-1·d-1). In the death protection experiment, mice were infected with 2×half lethal dose (LD50) of influenza virus FM1.The Chuankezhi injection was given once a day for 4 days. The number of death animal within 14 days was counted. The mortality and the death protection rate were calculated. In the treatment experiment, mice were infected with 0.8×LD50 of influenza virus, and the Chuankezhi injection was given once a day for 4 days. On the 5th day after the infection, the levels of interleukin-8 (IL-8) in lung, prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and vasopressin (AVP) in brain were tested by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The viral load of influenza virus in lung was tested by Real-time PCR. In the pre-treatment experiment, mice were given Chuankezhi injection once a day for 5 days. 1 hour after the last treatment, mice were infected with 0.8×LD50 influenza virus. 4 days after the infection, the lung index, spleen index, thymus index, and viral load in lung tissue were calculated. Result: Compared with normal group, the IL-8, PGE2 content, lung index and viral load in the lung tissue of model group were significantly increased (P2, and the viral load of influenza(PPPPConclusion: Chuankezhi injection could effectively prevent the mouse model of pneumonia induced by influenza A (H1N1) virus. The mechanism might be related to the reduction of inflammation and inhibiting viral replication.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To study the pharmacodynamic effects of volatile oil from Homalomena occulta on adjuvant-induced arthritis(AA)model rats and its mechanism. METHODS:60 rats were randomly divided into normal control group(0.5%polysor-bate 80),model control group (0.5% polysorbate 80),positive control group (Tripterygium glycosides tablets,10 mg/kg), high-dose,middle-dose and low-dose(0.08,0.04 and 0.02 ml/kg)groups of volatile oil from H. occulta. Except for normal control group, other groups were given complete Freund's adjuvant subcutaneously via right rear foot plantar to induce AA model, and giv-en relevant medicine intragastrically for 25 days, once a day, since modeling. The articular swelling degree, immune organ (thy-mus gland and spleen) index, pathological change, the contents of IL-1β and TNF-α in serum were detected. RESULTS:Com-pared with normal control group, the primary and secondary articular swelling degree and thymus gland index of rats and the serum contents of IL-1β and TNF-α increased in model control group, while spleen index decreased(P<0.05 or P<0.01);obvious tissue swelling, large amount of neutrophile granulocyte, leukomonocyte and macrophage infiltrating joint surrounding tissue, the prolifer-ation of synovial cells and obvious osteoarthritic lesion were observed in podarthrum. Compared with model control group, the pri-mary and secondary articular swelling degree and the serum content of IL-1β decreased in the volatile oil from H. occulta groups;thymus gland index increased in middle-dose and low-dose groups of the volatile oil from H. occulta;the content of TNF-α de-creased in high-dose group of the volatile oil from H. occulta(P<0.05 or P<0.01). The inflammatory cell infiltration of joint sur-rounding tissue relieved in treatment groups, synovial cells proliferation was not obvious and synovial cells morphology was im-proved. CONCLUSIONS:The volatile oil from H. occulta has the pharmacodynamic effects on AA in rat,and its mechanism might be related to the serum content reduction of IL-1β and TNF-α.
